Dr. Mason has 27 years of education experience. 25 in Houston schools working at all grade levels serving Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade students. After matriculating through the St. Louis Public School System, Marcellars went on to Bailey Technical Institute to study automotive and diesel mechanics. He was fortunate to receive a full five-year scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. Marcellars furthered his education by going on to Arkansas State University where he earned his Master of Science in Education Degree.
Bitten by the Education Bug, Marcellars decided to move his family to Houston , TX and pursue a teaching career as well as a Mid-Management Certification from Prairie View A & M University located in Prairie View, Texas . This educator’s thirst for knowledge culminated with the earning of his Doctoral Degree from Texas Southern University located in Houston , TX on May 10, 2008 . Dissertation Title: The Influence of Selected Academic, Demographic, and Instructional Program Related Factors on High School Student Dropout Rates.
Marcellars has extensive experience working in the Houston Independent School District where he worked six years as a Texas certified Health and Physical Education teacher at Kolter Elementary School, ten years as an Assistant Principal of Woodson Middle School, The Rice School, Sam Houston High School, and Burbank Middle School prior to being promoted to Principal of Alcott Elementary and Sterling High Schools. Dr. Mason was recently recognized by his high school alma mater Alumni Association as an Educator of Excellence in Charles Sumner High School’s historic achievers archive since 1875.
Dr. Mason’s community activities include membership in Brookhollow Baptist Church (TCWW) where he is a member of Joshua’s Men Discipleship Ministry. He has served as President of the Highland Trails Homeowners Association. Most recently, Dr. Mason was selected as Precinct 619 Delegate 2007-2008. He also holds or held membership in the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), Texas Association of School Administrators, and Houston Association of School Administrators (HASA), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NCAAP), National Association of Black School Educators (NABSE), Texas Alliance of Black School Educators (TABSE), Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators (HAABSE), Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity (TSU Chapter), President and 1st Vice President of Houston Association for Physical Education (HAPE), Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges, President, Vice President and Treasurer of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, and F. & A. M. Prince Hall Mason.
Dr. Mason brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and expertise to Learning Organizations. His ability to galvanize the support of diverse groups allows traditional barriers to be overcome and facilitates the learning process. Dr. Mason believes in the concepts of Practice, Rehearse, and Perform (PRP) and uses 90% as the minimum acceptable level for things measurable. Dr. Mason is articulate and able to forge positive effective relationships designed to meet the needs of his students.
Dr. Marcellars Mason and his wife are the parents of three children.
